The Open College of the Arts is 30 years old!

A lot has changed in the thirty years since Michael Young founded OCA. Cassettes became CDs, which then became downloads, and then streaming. Liverpool won their last league title just three years after we became a thing, and are still searching for the next one. Mario Brothers were all the rage… and still are, surprisingly.

We want to tap into that potential within each of us by providing opportunities to engage in design practice and to learn design through new programmes at the Open College of the Arts. I’m very excited to announce that the first of these is now ready – we have a foundation in Interior Design which you can sign up for from today.

Your Voice: Shape the World Around You

At OCA, our revamped mission is to introduce student-led activities to our operations and learning models. Integral to this is to give you, our students, a greater voice in decision making processes that affect you. This academic year we are introducing two new surveys that form an integral element of our academic monitoring processes; the Unit Evaluation Survey, and the Level Analysis Survey.

#ocagraduation2018

On a glorious June morning OCA students celebrated the culmination of their study at the Royal Festival Hall in London. 91 students graduated across Creative Arts, Painting, Photography, Visual Communications, Textiles, Creative Writing and our MA Fine Art. Those that could attend the ceremony were also invited to a special gathering specifically for OCA students and their guests.

OCA news: A note from Will Woods, Principal

This is my first post as Principal here at the Open College of the Arts and I’m very pleased to be able to share some exciting news. Last week we launched a campaign to celebrate 30 years of creativity through distance learning with OCA. OCA became part of the University for the Creative Arts, the UK’s number one specialist university for the creative arts, in 2016 and the University of the Creative Arts is coincidentally celebrating it’s 150 anniversary this year.

Open College of the Arts and UCA celebrate 30 years of creativity for everyone

The nine-month campaign, which coincides with UCA’s 150th anniversary, will give students and alumni the opportunity to feature in films, exhibit in the #weareoca30 online gallery, and download special release online courses on subjects from photography to fine art.
