The Freedom of Information Act 2000 gives a general right of access to all types of recorded information held by public authorities, sets out general exemptions from that right and places a number of obligations on public authorities.
Public authorities are defined in the Act and include Higher Education institutions. The Open College of the Arts falls under this category as a part of the University for the Creative Arts.
This section explains who the Open College of the Arts is, how and why we carry out duties, how and why we make certain decisions, and how we spend any public money that we receive. This is published to be open, and for the organisation to be accountable.
Requests for information should be made under the Freedom of Information Act, labelled ‘Freedom of Information Request’ and sent to DPO@oca.ac.uk.
The Act, in conjunction with the Data Protection Act 1998 and Environmental Information Regulations, is the principal mechanism for access to information held by public bodies.
The Freedom of Information Act is enforced by the Information Commissioner, who oversees both Freedom of Information and Data Protection legislation.
