OCA tutor and assessor Bryan Eccleshall looks at the work of BA Hons Painting student Arlene Sharp.
Arlene made a collection of images as part of her Understanding Painting Media course in response to the Jewish Holocaust Museum in Berlin. It is an engaged and inventive enquiry and there is a real sense of variety and similarity in the work. She explores the space and the issues surrounding that space using media and picture making.

Well done Arlene of being featured. Your painterly interrogation is very inspiring, kind of snapshots of moments, a cluster of impressions mediated through painting. A different form of narrative in painting. The book format mentioned by Bryan might be indeed an engaging format. Actually, I got some inspiration from this kind of painting approach from the UPM course and from your and fellow student’s work for my POP course unit on self portrait. An aspect that I find very benefical in learning with OCA.

Well done Arlene, really great work! I’ve seen these on your blog but it is great to see your work here in video form too as I get a real physical sense of your pieces. Loved this piece before but even more so now!

Thanks for your comments Sue and Stefan – I found there were lots of ideas for inspiration in the UPM course – it was a good one to finish on before starting Level 2.
