OCA Student Association study event: Caroline Cardus, Artist’s talk

OCA students are invited to join artist Caroline Cardus via zoom on Sunday 19 September 2021 at 2pm.

Visual artist Caroline Cardus’s art practice focuses on creative activism. Starting from Cardus’s own experiences as a disabled woman, her text based, subversive and graphic style practice brings forth frank, darkly humorous and powerful messages about disability inequality and everyday discrimination.

Career highlights include the ground-breaking disability art protest piece, The Way Ahead, which has toured throughout the UK for 17 years. Cardus was winner of the Adam Reynolds Memorial Bursary in 2011, collaborated with Tate in 2018 and 2019 and has been artist in residence at The Civic, Barnsley during 2021.

Cardus also works as a creative producer and mentor for other disabled artists. During 2021-2022 she is producing activist artist Dolly Sen’s Birdsong from Inobservable Worlds multi-media residency at The Wellcome Collection.
