Tutor News – Katrina Whitehead

Some of you will know me as your personal tutor, or you may have spoken to me when I have delivered one of the studio meetings. If you don’t know me, I have been working as a flexible tutor for OCA since 2008 and I have seen many progressive changes over this time, including video tutorials and group meetings, both in person and on-line. It has also been exciting to learn about student achievements including exhibitions, competition wins and of course, graduating with a degree.

So, it is with delight that I have been offered – and accepted – a position as Programme Tutor on the BA (Hons) Creative Arts programme at OCA; a course in which I have tutored many students over the years.  Therefore, it is also with regret that I will no longer be tutoring those of you on the new 1.1 and 1.2 units on your photographic journey with BA (Hons) Photography at OCA. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with you all and discussing your projects with you.

If you would like to stay connected and read about my research practice, I am working towards a practice-based PhD in crime photo novels, inspired by a true story about Mary Rogers, a murdered girl, written by Edgar Allan Poe. I am recreating the story through infrared and ultraviolet forensic photography techniques and collaborating with a costumier to recreate her dress, concluding in an installation of clothes and objects identified in the short story, alongside an accompanying photobook. You can follow me on my journey via the following:

I am also excited to share that I have been accepted on a PHMuseum Masterclass course with Dutch artist, designer and curator Erik Kessels, learning how to curate exhibitions, which will feed into the culmination of my work for the PhD.

I wish you all the best as you move through your degree programme and leave you in the very capable hands of the team.
