Johanna Ward
Photographer artist Johanna Ward has agreed to join us on the Saturday 6 December for a few hours of impassioned discussion on the subject of photo books, narrative photography and beyond. Those who were at the recent Brighton Study visit may remember her work – see video – entitled “I shall say goodbye with my strengthening love for you, forever and ever”. The event will begin with Johanna talking about her work, which explores relationships; between humans and nature, and those between people, before moving to discuss student’s work. Please bring one key project that you’re working on with reference material and rough prints; this can be a series, or a singular photograph that has inspired an idea. There will be ample chance for questions, so come prepared to discuss and be discussed!
Space will be limited for this event to be held in Thatcham near Newbury. Although this event is being organised by the OCA Students’ Association, bookings are being handled by the OCA office. Places are free to OCA students. To book your place email enquiries@oca-uk.com
One of the most affecting, and effective, exhibits in the Brighton trip as far as I was concerned.
I agree. Those beautiful concertina books extending across the wall were a wonderful inspiration. I certainly welcome the opportunity to meet with Johanna.
Johanna’s work certainly was a highlight during the study visit to the Brighton Biennial. Beautiful and captivating.
I’v asked to attend. Hopefully she will explain [in detail] how she made her books!
Brilliant talk and critiques. Thanks OCASA for organising this, and Eddy for hosting—was really worth the trip!
Definitely worth the trip even on such a cold day. Thanks very much Johanna for such an inspiring talk about the context of your practice and the constructive feedback given to those of us who had ongoing/new work to show you.
Sorry I missed it – was it recorded?
Johanna’s presentation was—but it was difficult to record the critique because the video camera was on a tripod—and therefore was not a roving one—to see the images on the table—if that makes sense?
I am really looking forward to read your write-ups on this! I hope that it will be however possible to see the video of the presentation.
