Garden Design – 21/22 News roundup by Programme Leader Gill German

After the challenges of 2020 the Garden Design Department is now steadily growing. We had a successful assessment in July with all students passing with good grades and all continuing on to the next unit. It is really exciting having a range of student experience in the Garden Design Department. We have more students finishing current units now and I’m looking forward to their applications for their unit assessments.

Interior Design: Reflecting on your work

As tutors, I realise we ask you to reflect on your work and your feedback a lot. Thinking back on my own experience, being asked to reflect on my own work was often the last thing I wanted to add to my constantly growing to do list as a student. However, it quickly became apparent that this idea of reflecting on one’s work is actually something I’d need to do for the rest of my career as a designer.

SYP student Geraldine Leahy recently held her solo Degree Show, Littoral Shift: A Coastal Terrain in Flux, in a beautiful restored and repurposed church in the seaside village of Rush, North County Dublin. She will present her artist’s talk on Wednesday 22nd of June at 6pm, to which you all OCA students are warmly invited.

Please join me to celebrate the achievement of level 3 Painting SYP student Wendy Healey who has just completed her final degree show with us and is soon to graduate.
Wendy’s OCA Artist Talk will comprise of an in-conversation talk with Psychotherapist/ Art Therapist Maureen Begadon, filmed at Wendy’s home studio prior to her degree show on 28 April -14 May at DAA gallery Sutton Coldfield. The film will be followed by a question and answer discussion.

Linda has recently submitted Advanced Practice and Visual Research for assessment. For these units Linda generated a substantial body of written work, extensive research, idea generation, mixed media experimentation, visual development, alternative layouts and final visual solutions.
