Unmissable study visit to Shonibare

Yinka Shonibare’s exhibition FABRIC-ATION is on, and should be a must for any visual artist: whether a Visual Communication specialist, textiles student or fine artist. We have a study visit planned for 24 April at Yorkshire Sculpture Park (which is just south of Leeds). Shomibare describes himself as a ‘post colonial’ hybrid, and this is evident in all his work, which centres on themes of post colonialism, national and personal identity. His work is richly layered both phsyically and metaphorically, and includes reference to his Nigerian and British roots, and his disability. This exhibition is a is a true melting pot of disciplines, and its impossible to categorise his work, crossing sculpture, textiles, theatre and performance. There will be a curator led tour of the exhibition, which gives this visit added value, and we are booked into the learning centre after the visit to re-cap, share our thoughts and gather some refreshments.
We are excited by this fabulous opportunity for OCA students to gather at this event, there will be plenty to talk about and it should be a delight to see. Please email [email protected] for a free place (with free parking too).
