Investigating Drawing

For those who love drawing, this new level 2 course may be the most exciting addition to the Painting and the Creative Arts degree pathways. Called Investigating Drawing, the course challenges students to think outside the box, and take line beyond the paper. The courses explores composition, material properties, physicality and gesture, environmental interventions and timelines. The course asks you to take risks and encourages you to explore widely. The course author, OCA tutor Emma Drye, describes the course as a box of unlit matches. Your creativity is the spark, and the effort you put in is the fuel.
Come and light your fire!
Sounds interesting – pity I have a way to go before level 2 – like the idea of doing mixed media and this new drawing module. At least it gives me the incentive to get on with the level 1 modules I have to do….
BRILLIANT just what I have been waiting for!
I’m currently on Drawing 1, to be followed by Painting 1 and Printmaking 1. I never could understand why, unlike Painting and Printmaking, there was no Drawing 2 option. Now I’ll have to make a decision about the Level 2 courses to choose.
I am interested to know what this course entails.
Very excited to see more of this course! Good to have an opportunity to take drawing further…
I’m looking forward to getting my first students on this course. I think it is very well put together. I will be doing some of the exercises myself and particularly look forward to doing some environmental interventions. There is an emphasis on real investigation and getting physically involved in the process.
I don’t know if I’ll be one of your first students on it – but I would like to go on it anyway – it sounds inspiring!
Very exciting! If you took this and printmaking at level 2, what would be your options at level 3? Presumably the pathways will change?
Might even stop me being grumpy about the OCA!
I’m intrigued why are you grumpy?

this course appears to be more i project driven and experimental that would suit me.
LOL Jim – Go Boy!
Sounds exciting. Will this become a part of the painting degree pathway?
Yes, Ayla. It is approved by UCA as part of the painting degree pathway. The title in the pathway is the working title rather than the final published title, but you can see it here
Sounds very interesting. Can’t wait to learn more.
