Student work uncovered… Paul Washer's illustrations and use of Photoshop

Christian Lloyd, Curriculum Leader for Visual Communications, and an assessor, talks to us about Paul Washer’s work from Illustraion 1 and a common trap students fall into when using Photoshop. Notice how good Paul’s drawings are…. and how little you can see of them in these examples.

Excellent illustration work.
I should imagine everybody goes through a phase of going crazy with digital editing. I shudder with embarrassment when I think of some of the things I did to my photography back in the mid-90s, just because I could, even though they were well received at the time.
I guess you need to try out the extremes to get to know the software and then find your own middle ground. Would love to know what Paul thinks as well.
Wonderful drawings – they communicate very strongly and directly. I think that as we learn and develop we must sometimes work through things and even go to extremes to get to a useful position.
I wish I could go crazy with filters too 🙂
