I am the OCA’s Principal, having come from the Open University as their Head of Strategic Planning and Policy in Learning and Teaching Innovation. Prior to that role, I was Director of Technology Enhanced Learning. When not working, I’m studying the OU’s H800 module ‘Technology-enhanced learning: practices and debates’ through Distance Learning and I enjoy sailing, kayaking, running and occasionally riding horses (not very proficiently!)
I am responsible for curriculum development and quality enhancement to ensure that the OCA remains relevant and meets the needs its learners. I also tutor across the BA (Hons) Photography degree programme. I’m an award winning and internationally exhibiting artist, and I’m currently working towards a PhD (my research is concerned with the sexualisation of e-commerce websites). I have two small children, an old blind sausage dog, and a wonderful and supportive husband (who is also an established art photographer, PhD candidate and OCA tutor).
Following gaining a BSc (Hons) Textile Design degree I worked as a Textile Designer for a contract fabric manufacturer in Lancashire for 5 years followed by a position as a Fabric Buyer for a shirt and apparel supplier in West Yorkshire. Prior to working at OCA I worked at Barnsley College offering support and guidance regarding training options to businesses and individuals throughout Yorkshire and Humberside. In 2014 I gained a level 4 Diploma in Advice and Guidance. My role at OCA is to provide general support and advice to both existing student and those looking to become students with OCA, and also support the Academic Registrar with preparation for assessments.
As part of my role, I will be working closely with Student Support and Learner Support, providing assistance to both teams. Prior to joining OCA, I worked as a Learning Support Assistant. I have completed my Pre-Service Certificate in Education and hold a HND in Computing and Systems Development. In my spare time I like to relax and read a book, or watch movies/shows.
My role at OCA is Learner Support Adviser. I provide support to students in the areas of disability support, pastoral care, mitigating circumstances, and all other aspects of supporting students in need. Prior to working at the OCA, I have worked in mainly Admissions roles within the Higher Education sector.
I am recently married and have a 17 month old daughter, so the majority of my spare time is spent watching the Baby Shark video on a continuous loop!
I provide expertise to OCA in the areas of disability support, pastoral care, mitigating circumstances, and all other aspects of supporting students in need.
I have a degree in English Language and Linguistics and my background prior to OCA was in student support, and widening participation in Higher Education.
In my spare time I enjoy running around after my children, relaxing spa days and collecting injuries at roller derby.
I am a new member of the team. My main duties include dispatch and collection of course materials and assessment work. I am married with two sons, and now I’m a proud granddad to my grandson. My spare time is spent with my family and two dogs. I also have a passion for playing and teaching the guitar.
I have worked at Open College of the Arts since 1991. My main duties include dispatch and printing of course materials and the management of assessment submissions, sending tutors details of their students and any administration paperwork including updating student and tutor details on the OCA database. I also prepare the OCA's premises for assessments and other events. I am married with two children and two grandsons. At weekends we enjoy long walks ending at our local pub and trips to the East Coast on our motorbike.
I have worked at Open College of the Arts since 2001 and in that time I have held various positions. My current role is Head of Quality and Academic Support. This new role has oversight of quality and assessment processes within OCA. I have a degree in Social Sciences and a more recent qualification in Advice & Guidance.
I am married with 2 daughters and any spare time is spent with family and friends and enjoying yoga & pilates.
I am the college's Head of Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL), and responsible for the college's virtual learning platforms and associated digital resources and applications. I am a husband and dad of three living in York and have worked at the OCA since 2004, progressing from editing, designing and scanning duties to my current position.
As OCA’s TEL Designer I am responsible for the design and quality control of the course units and associated resources. Liaising with, Programme Leaders, Course Authors, Editors, and students, to help support the design and production of engaging learning materials that are accessible for students. I hold a BA(Hons) Interdisciplinary Art and Design from the University of Huddersfield.
Outside of work my husband and I like to go overlanding in our expedition prepared Land Rover, and going camping with other like minded Land Rover enthusiasts.
As Academic Development Officer I am responsible for supporting learning and teaching developments across the college and managing a range of projects that develop, explore and support OCA’s approach to pedagogy, and the implementation of change. I hold a BA (Hons) Fine Art degree, and a Higher Diploma in Art and Design for Art Teachers both from Limerick School of Art and Design. From September 2018 I am embarking on an MA Art and Design in Education at UCL.
I also work as a tutor on OCA’s drawing units. I care deeply about animals, wildlife and the world, volunteering as a Born Free Activate member. I love to travel and explore new countries and cultures.
Here at the OCA I am responsible for supporting academic developments across the college and managing a range of projects that develop, explore and support OCA’s approach to pedagogical developments, and the implementation of change. Outside of work I try to visit as many galleries and exhibitions as I can, whilst also decorating my new home, and spending time in the garden.
My spare time is usually spent with my family, preferable outdoors, although I do enjoy having a quiet moment to read.Having worked in Academic Services at OCA for 18 months, I now work within the Finance Team. My responsibilities include tutor pay, enrolments and processing payments along with a variety of finance functions. I have a BA (Hons) in Economics from the University of Sunderland and have worked in a variety of administration roles.
