Adam Thompson

As the Programme Leader for Creative Arts, I am dedicated to fostering a vibrant learning environment that encourages the exploration of creative research and practice. My commitment lies in guiding students to broaden their perspectives through our exciting and dynamic degree programme, empowering them to evolve into interdisciplinary creative artists.

My creative practice explores the process of sourcing and repurposing materials from the local environment. I focus on re-contextualising materials through playful presentations and display methods, spanning various disciplines such as sculpture, installation, photography, moving image and sound, alongside curatorial projects.

With a diverse portfolio, I have participated in international solo and group exhibitions across galleries, museums, and project spaces. Additionally, my involvement in prestigious residency programmes, including the UNESCO-Aschberg programme at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Seoul, South Korea, has enriched my professional journey.

My academic background includes a BA in Fine Art, Studio Practice, and Contemporary Critical Theory (2001) and an MA in Fine Art (2009), from Goldsmiths College, London, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from the University of Suffolk, Ipswich (2016). I run curatorial projects, directing Atlas House – an independent project space in Ipswich, Suffolk and the Annual Ipswich Biennial, while concurrently supporting creative practitioners through community and education projects across the East of England.
