Adam Thompson

Senior Academic Manager (Creative Arts, Fine Art & Music Departments)

As Senior Academic Manager at OCA, I oversee the Creative Arts, Fine Art & Music Departments, ensuring the delivery of high-quality teaching, learning and assessment opportunities for our students.

I am dedicated to fostering a vibrant learning environment that encourages the exploration of creative research and practice. My commitment lies in guiding students to broaden their perspectives through our exciting and dynamic degree programming, empowering them to evolve and excel in their creative endeavours.

As a practising artist, curator and educator, my practice spans various disciplines such as sculpture, installation, photography, moving image, sound, and curatorial projects. With a diverse portfolio, I have participated in international solo and group exhibitions across galleries, museums, and project spaces. Additionally, my involvement in prestigious residency programmes, including the UNESCO-Aschberg programme at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Seoul, South Korea, has enriched my professional journey.

My academic background includes a BA in Fine Art, Studio Practice, and Contemporary Critical Theory (2001) and an MA in Fine Art (2009), from Goldsmiths College, London, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from the University of Suffolk, Ipswich (2016). I run curatorial projects, directing Atlas House – an independent project space in Ipswich, Suffolk and the Annual Ipswich Biennial, while concurrently supporting creative practitioners through community and education projects across the East of England.
