Michelle Keegan

I am fascinated by Printmaking, I live for it and never ceased to be excited by its magic.

I studied Fine Art at the Kent Institute of Art and Design in Maidstone graduating with 1st class honours. I specialised in Printmaking immediately, having been intrigued by the possibilities of process and exploring unknown ways of making marks.

I continued Post Graduate education at the Slade School of Fine Art, under the guidance of Stanley Jones.

I have made prints and exhibited widely in the UK and Internationally for the past 25 years.

I began my career as a Printmaking technician and Lecturer at the Kent Institute of Art [now University of Creative Arts] and began teaching etching, drypoint, collagraph, silkscreen, lino and lithography immediately.

I took a full time post at South Nottingham College [now Nottingham College] to initially set up, implement and teach all aspects of Printmaking.

I am currently the Senior Lecturer in Printmaking at The University of Northampton. Alongside this I have taught workshops at West Yorkshire Print workshop, Leicester Print workshop and have been involved in numerous community arts projects.

I am committed to Art education that requires a progressive and flexible approach. I enjoy teaching and being part of an environment where students are encouraged and supported to fulfil aspirations and goals. To this end I believe that learning and sharing is both pleasure and privilege.

I have always continued to be an exhibiting practicing Printmaker. I exhibit regularly with the gallery that represents me alongside more public spaces. My work explores boundaries between people and places, liminality. It explores the dynamics and ambiguities of relationships, therefore exposing private ways of seeing and that of wider public discourses.

I was selected for the Navigating Yorkshire printmaking exhibition as part of the Yorkshire Festival –The Artist as Cartographer.

I took part in the exhibition “The art of printmaking” at the Cooper gallery. I feel very privileged and honoured to have won the Flourish Award For Excellence in Printmaking in 2014 and have had solo exhibitions at West Yorkshire Printmakers Gallery, Harrington Mill Studios Gallery and Huddersfield Museum alongside numerous group exhibitions in commercial galleries.
