Inside Stories

This study visit will be an opportunity to see the contrast between 18th century cartoons and contemporary illustrations. Exploring different approaches towards ideas, techniques and materials,we will first visit the Cartoon Museum to view Hogarth’s London and following that we will go to the House of Illustration to see Quentin Blake’s Inside Stories exhibition.

William Hogarth (1697–1726) was an English painter, printmaker, social critic, and editorial cartoonist. His compelling images reveal the vitality and the suffering, the highs and the lows of life in London 250 years ago.

Quentin Blake is one of the UK’s most important and best-loved illustrators whose work is recognised worldwide. The exhibition brings together first roughs and storyboards, many never shown before, with finished art work to demonstrate how ideas evolved, often in close collaboration with the authors.
