Elina Brotherus Talk
In the Mirror 1, 2007
On 12th of November at 11am Elina Brotherus is going to give a talk to OCA students about her upcoming exhibition at Wapping Project in Dover Street, Central London. Â (Please note the change in location for the gallery.)
Elina has generously agreed to meeting with us at the gallery so we can see the work and hear her speak about her practice with some time for questions before she jets off to Paris Photo the same day!
As you know these events are invaluable for getting to know an artist and finding out first hand about what was involved in making the work.
Elina Brotherus is an internationally renowned artist working within themes of identity and self portraiture. Â She often builds her practice on scenarios of a personal nature.
All spaces are free to OCA students – please book your place at enquiries@oca-uk.com There is no seating in the gallery so places are limited to 20 students and you must be happy to stand during the talk. As we expect demand to outstrip capacity places will be allocated by lottery. We hope to be able to video the session for the student site ‘Photographers Talking’ resource.
*Please note I made a mistake on the date – it’s not the 11th but the 12th November at 11am. Too many elevenses! Apologies
And there was me thinking that all those 11s were going to be significant! Anyway, have booked a place. Do we have an idea how long Elina will have with us before she jets off?
Hi Stan – Great! Yes we will have about an hour and a half …
Nearly upon us … came across Brotherus in a video installation of hers at The Sense of Place exhibition (a landscape photography exhibition) and watched her walking naked into the water only to remerge then enter again. Each session was done from the same place but at a different time of the year. Repetitive almost boring but it was calming and possibly but not directly erotic!
Wonderful talk with Elina being very open with us. Look forward to seeing the video of it.
Couldn’t agree more Richard. Hugely moving
I am really looking forward to seeing the video!
wonderful talk, wonderful woman … !!
It was so different hearing her and watching her talk whilst standing in from of her work, and moving around it. She seems so frail and delicate, shy even, and yet with an energy and purpose about her. I think I appreciate her work much more now; have a better understanding of it from listening to her. thanks to her, and you, for giving us this opportunity.
Having looked at some of her work in the past I always had the impression that she was a sad person. Wish I could have been there to understand her better. Really looking forward to the video.
Really looking forward to seeing the video—could not go as I was working. Thanks for organising—and for organising the video too.
