Another assessment is over at OCA, and we are pleased to say the standard of work overall at this assessment was high. Here is the first of a few reviews by assessors on some work submitted. Jim Unsworth and Michelle Whiting discuss the work of OCA student Dhama Thanigasapapathy, whose drawings show great potential.

  • This was really interesting – and I just wish it had been a bit longer. I’d have liked to have heard more of what they had to say.

  • This tightening up when it comes to producing the finished assignment pieces is certainly something I experience but I’m trying to break out of it! It’s reassuring to know others are experiencing it and that I’m right in wanting to change.

  • I like what one of the assesors says about almost pretending it is not a finished piece when you are doing it. It is a mind game, probably similar to how sports people feel when competing rather than training.

  • I like that too.I t6end to tighten up to a “finished ” piece and loose the looseness of my sketchbook drawings. It is something my tutor is advising me to work on. I have had a long ingrained feeling that it is wrong not to polish a drawing, but am now trying to lose that and relax, and working on a smaller scale is helping. Funnily enough, it doesnt happen with life drawing, only when making a picture.
