How to keep an exceptional learning blog

This is the second time we have highlighted Fran Clark’s blog: its just too good to ignore. Fran is doing the level one Drawing Skills course but her reflections, and the way she goes about documenting them, are outstanding.
Just look at what she has written for her assignment five work. Fran tells us not just what the assignment she is working on is aiming at, but what she is personally aiming at too. She is open and honest in articulating her thinking, and this really helps tutors and assessors appreciate her direction: She begins:
‘Before I even read the brief for the Assignment 5 final piece I knew I wanted to achieve two things – 1. to produce something that was fun to create and not a chore, and 2. to leave alone the pencils and other delicate mark making tools.’
Fran’s honesty about one of the key dilemmas all artists’ face is a classic but insightful indication of the level she has attained in her practice:
‘I’ve been trying to learn how to draw beautifully, and have had a (so far unfulfilled!) desire for someone to look at my drawings and say “Wow, that’s amazing Fran” – but only recently have I learned that this desire is completely irrelevant if I haven’t taken any personal enjoyment from the work I am producing.’
Fran then launches into the Observation in Nature project with a depth of study that goes way beyond the requirements at this level. Take a look at the richness of the outcome, all embedded in research. Another excellent post, thanks Fran.
