Blog of the week: Fran Clark
Fran’s learning log is a refreshing and straightforward reflection on the development of her work. As a Drawing one student she is clearly just finding her feet in terms of writing about her work, and searching out things that inspire her and give her the opportunity to ruminate and respond to. I personally would prefer a plain background to the blog to better view the images within it, but she’s certainly heading in the right direction with its contents. Her learning log is a great example for other students starting out in drawing and painting. She refers to this image in her blog. Is this the face of a worried OCA student?

I’ve just started a drawing class run by a local artist so a link to Fran’s blog has come at a really good time for me. For me there’s nothing worse than looking at my drawings and knowing they’re out of proportion but not being able yet to work out why.
I really enjoyed the way Fran writes about and critiques herself and the depth of attention she so obviously pays to her drawing. An inspiring read for me and thanks for drawing my attention to Fran’s blog.
I have moved on to the second part of the Drawing one course- looking at nature. Have done considerable work and am sending it to the tutor to look at. My difficulty has been how to enter the log book. What I have done is to file the research material in a folder and enter the esential details in the log book. I don’t know if it is the right approach. Lately I have joined a local drawing class which is helping me to move my lines methodically and to deal with the composition etc. Any suggestions to a mature student would be most welcome.
