Enrolments Now Open for Our New Film and Media Production CertHE

We are thrilled to announce that enrolments are now open for our new Certificate of Higher Education in Film and Media Production!

This qualification has been developed in collaboration with The Open College of the Arts and The Open University, bringing together best practices from both institutions to ensure that it offers a truly unique learning experience. 

Whether you’re interested in filmmaking, scriptwriting, storytelling, podcasting or animation, this course gives you the chance to explore a range of skills while developing your own creative projects.

We worked closely with people in the industry to shape this qualification. The focus is on helping students build real world knowledge, practical skills and professional behaviours that will support them in their next steps – whether that’s further study, freelance work or entering the creative industries.

This is a fully remote course, with both part time (2 years) and full time (1 year) study options, designed for students who want flexibility without compromising on quality. Students will join an online, connected, supportive community of peers and tutors. It’s a space where you can share work, give and receive feedback and learn together, wherever you’re based.

There are no exams! Assessment is based on creative work, presentations and reflection. It’s all about practice – making, trying things out and developing your own ideas in response to production challenges. This makes the course ideal for anyone looking to build a portfolio, move into the industry or take their creative skills to the next level.

We’re also proud to offer access to ShotDeck, a visual reference platform used by directors and cinematographers across the industry. It’s a powerful tool for planning, visual storytelling and design – and it’s included as part of your studies.

​​All tutors teaching on the CertHE are industry practitioners, bringing up to date, relevant experience and insight to support and guide students. All staff are trained in unconscious bias and we adhere to guidance from The Film and TV Charity on leading mentally healthy productions.

As programme leader, I’ve worked on hundreds of student film and media projects, and as part of my ongoing industry practice, I was recently awarded a scholarship to train as an intimacy coordinator through a SAG-AFTRA approved course.

Consent-based, trauma-informed practice is central to my work and I’m passionate about embedding my knowledge and approach throughout the qualification. It’s about preparing students not just to be skilled practitioners, but also to be responsible, ethical and respectful members of creative teams.
