Time

An Open Art Collective Exhibition

Tuesday 5 February 2019 to Sunday 17 February 2019

From Memory to Imagination…

Open Art Collective’s ‘Time’ exhibition takes you on a journey from the past into the future, from memory to imagination.
How did it come about? Open Art Collective was created by members of the OCA Thames Valley Group, undergraduates and graduate alumni studying photography, drawing and visual communications. ‘Time’ is our first group exhibition, the result of our shared interest in developing personal work and artistic interests alongside our OCA courses.
Time is something that we all experience in different ways. We took this broad-ranging theme as our starting point, questioning our relationship to the notion of time and the influence it has on our lives. In a period of fast-paced lives, evolving family structures and multi-generational societies, time is an important issue to explore.
What will visitors to the exhibition see?
‘Time’ showcases the work of eleven OCA students. Our work includes drawing, photograms, photography and mixed media; distinctive, personal and creative responses to our own experience of time. Drawings with loose, delicate marks play with notions of memory and how it changes over time from childhood to adulthood.

A series of portraits take us into a world of time travel; at first glance they appear historical, yet on close inspection small clues suggest this might not be the case.
Another artist uses what she describes as some of the most unremarkable photographs from her deceased father-in-law’s collection. Intricate patterns cut into each image give them a new life, showing both disappearing memories and the continuing love with which they are held within the family.

‘Time’ has been over eighteen months in the making; for some of us the first experience of creating an exhibition.
If you would like to see our work, you will find us at The Lightbox, Chobham Road, Woking, GU21 4AA. The exhibition opens on 5 February. Opening hours are Tuesday – Saturday 10.30am – 5.00pm,  Sunday 11.00am – 4.00pm. Admission is free.

  • Just to highlight this event was partly funded by both participating students and OCASA. As with the SW Regional Group this is the sort of event that students can benefit from either as a participating artist or in visiting the exhibition.
