In December John Umney will have served for three years as President of the OCA Students’ Association. We need to begin a process to find his replacement and this is the formal announcement of an election for that role.

The Role

The role is an important one and in addition to chairing the Student’s Association, the post holder has observer status on the OCA Board of Trustees and Development Committee. John will be happy to answer any questions and discuss the role with those interested; you can contact him via president@ocasa.org.uk

There are four OCASA committee meetings per year where attendance can be via a video link. However it is important to note that attendance at the Board of Trustees in Barnsley needs to be in person.

“I have really enjoyed my time with OCASA, the role of President offers a unique perspective into the relationship between the OCA student and the college. During my term there have been many changes in the courses and I am proud of the work OCASA has done to represent the voice of the student during those times, one of the critical elements of OCASA’s work. The committee is now critically engaged, via the role of President, with the Board of Trustees and their various sub-committees. It is a good time to become involved.”  John Umney

Nominations

All students currently studying with OCA are eligible to stand and to vote. Students who wish to stand for election may nominate themselves, or be nominated by another student (with the nominee’s permission, of course). Please email a 250 word election statement (setting out why other students should choose you) and a 250 word personal biography (setting out information that you think other students should know about you) to the returning officer, Dee Whitmore (deewhitmore@oca.ac.uk) by the 23 November.

Elections

An election announcement, with details of the candidates and instructions on how to vote, will be published on WeAreOCA, OCASA website and the Student Site on the 30 November. Students will then have until 17:00 BST on the 31 December to register their vote.

(Please note that, if there is only a single nomination for any OCASA committee post, that student is elected unopposed to the committee and their statements published on OCASA student web-site as a matter of record.)

Results

Election results will be published on WeAreOCA, OCASA website and the Student Site on the 15 January.

John is planning a handover process, with the new President taking over from the 31 January, or thereabouts.
