Throwback Thursday: The Big Draw

For this week’s Throwback Thursday we’re revisiting OCA’s first Big Draw online only event, which took place during the festival in October 2019.

We designed it as a short, open course suitable for all the family. In it participants were encouraged to explore mark making and become drawing machine inventors. We also recognised the important role drawing has in helping your wellbeing.

One student Amanda describes her experience of joining in “With BIG DRAW I got to experience different tools, forcing me into learning mode which I really enjoyed. It certainly has been an illuminating experience and I want to suggest that anyone embarking on a course at OCA should do this as a teaser to get started. Thank you for the amazing experience and the engaging manner in which you have out the course together – I thoroughly enjoyed it.” You can read more about her learning journey here https://www.oca.ac.uk/weareoca/education/big-draw-the-first-step-in-a-creative-journey/

We also took part in a short Q&A with the Big Draw organisers which you can read here https://thebigdraw.org/drawntolife-interview-with-the-open-college-of-the-arts

Whilst we put our thinking caps on for the next season’s topically engaging Big Draw theme A Climate of Change https://thebigdraw.org/ why not take a look at and join the OCA community of Big Draw-ers and share your mark making invention. Signup and log in for free here https://www.oca.ac.uk/our-courses/personal-development/oca-the-big-draw/

OCA has also been posting weekly Creative Challenges, so far we’ve introduced Basic Stop Motion and Visual Storytelling. You can find out more here.
