My mom always said life was like a box of chocolates…

When I started my degree, I still wasn’t quite ready to commit to one subject. I’d narrowed it down to three but how can you know you’re making the right choice? So I did what any indecisive 18 year old would do. No, not a gap year – I opted for study where I could take all three in my first year and put off my decision for another year!
The Visual Communications degree gives you access to similar flexibility. We’d all like a selection box full of our favourites (who even eats those Chomps and Fudges anyway?) and with this degree you can do that just that. Not sure that you want to specialise in just one area, Illustration, or Graphic Design? Under the Visual Communications umbrella you can study a range of disciplines including graphic design and illustration and explore the overlaps between those and other disciplines within the area. Hear that Cadburys? I’ll just stick to Double Deckers and Flakes in my selection box thanks.
If you’re not sure what visual communications is, like all good names, it does what it says on the tin. It’s about visually communicating. It’s there to solve problems. At the core is the idea that you apply your artistic skills in the pursuit of communication.
The option to bring in other related areas like Printmaking, Book Design or Drawing also means you can try out new things – personally I’m never really sure of those Boost bars in the selection box myself but if I knew I test the waters without committing to the whole bar, maybe that would help! So if your artistic interests aren’t all that narrow, you choices don’t have to be either.
What’s in your ideal selection box? Why not enjoy the flexibility you can have in our Visual Communications degree.
