More than the sum of its parts

Tis the season to be jolly, and buy presents, and make wonderful things, the stockings, the decorations, the turkey?
Maybe not the turkey (unless you’re Head Chef too), but the decorations for the tree and stockings certainly.
We tried this recently when we did Crafternoon in aid of Mind (where we raised £85) and we had everything on the go – felt, card, popsicle sticks, matches, glue, glitter, glitter glue, you name it, we had it.
Now admittedly, not everything that was made that day could be described as art, but they were made out of all sorts of different materials in combinations that you wouldn’t have thought of.
That’s what our Textiles degree is; taking things you wouldn’t have thought could be art and turning it into something amazing. And that is where you come in. Our Textiles degree programme could be just the thing to get you started in a new career. You’ll develop your textiles arts practice with a wide range of media and techniques and build on traditional skills in textiles, as these will form a solid foundation for further development throughout the degree.
You will have access to expert tuition, like the programme leader, Rebecca, who has completed an MRes looking at how concrete can be an artistic form.
The great thing about studying with OCA is you don’t have to be a high flying academic to enrol with us, we do not ask for academic qualifications, all we need from you is that you have a passion for textiles, good command of the English language and good IT skills to cope with the communication via distance learning, it’s that easy!
And with textiles, you don’t need any fancy materials, that’s the point – be a magpie. You’ll be encouraged to take the stuff around the house, mash it all together and create something more than the sum of its parts.
This has been our eighth day of #accessoca, join us tomorrow for more!
