Brighton Photo Biennial: Update

From 26 to 28 October OCA will be running a weekend study visit to the Brighton Photo Biennial. This will be our fourth visit to BPB and it offers an excellent opportunity for students to gather together and share a weekend of diverse photographic exhibitions and events under the guidance of tutors.
Examining the current state of flux as the United Kingdom redefines its role in Europe, the eighth Brighton Photo Biennial draws on one of the most important geopolitical events of our time. The UK’s status within the EU may be changing, but geographically we will remain part of Europe – with a shared history and intertwined future.Much of the photography in Brighton Photo Biennial 2018 responds to this current uncertainty. Visitors are invited to examine Britain’s geography as an island: simultaneously divided and connected; and to reflect on the ongoing refugee crisis and photography’s role in the construction of national identities.
The study visit will focus on highlights from Brighton Photo Biennial and its partner Brighton Photo Fringe. The following schedule is aimed at helping students plan their trips, but may be subject to slight change. (Further details will be provided two weeks before the visit goes ahead, for those attending.)

Friday 26th October

  • Afternoon from 2pm:  Viewing and discussing selected Photo Fringe exhibitions
  • Evening:  ‘Over Hills and Seas’ exhibition at Regency House, Brunswick Square, Hove, with guided introduction from Tim Andrews. – Followed by informal drinks nearby.
