The motivations for my becoming the OCA student representative for Equality and Diversity are deeply embedded in my personal experiences of racial and social class based injustices. I felt that this personal context was important to illustrate my interest and commitment to the role. But equally I wanted to add a real life dimension to the discussion on equality and diversity.

In this post we celebrate the learning journey of photographer and OCA student, Anne Bryson. Earlier this year, Anne exited the Photography degree at the end of level 2 with the award Diploma in Higher Education (DipHE). After a short study break she decided to take the short course, Investigating Place with Psychogeography and used this to further extend a project exploring the coal mines in the Forest of Dean. It’s great to report that OCA student Alice Powell’s drawing 60 Hours was shortlisted for the 2020 prize. By applying for this she follows in the footsteps of others who feel it’s time to test their work in the ‘real world’, to take a step up and to see what might happen. The process of application and getting as far as she did was a great learning experience and opportunity for Alice.
