Joanna Whittle is a painter based in Sheffield. Joanna studied at Central St Martin’s and the Royal College of Art and her work has been included in the Royal Academy Summer Show (2019) and the John Moores Painting Prize (2018). She recently won (jointly) the Harley Gallery Open Prize and the Contemporary British Painting Prose (both 2019). Her work is exhibited widely and is held in many collections. Joanna was recently awarded one of five career development bursaries granted by the Freelands Foundation in conjunction with Site Gallery in Sheffield.

I am sure we would all agree that life can get in the way of studying via distance learning and that our time management could always be better. I have already been sat at my laptop since 7am and after answering a few emails and doing a bit of on-line ‘housekeeping’, I ask myself, where has the last hour gone? However, as a tutor, it is always encouraging when students have completed their OCA unit within the deadline and there can also be some students who complete their studies despite experiencing some difficult life and personal circumstances.

The MA Fine Art course offered by the OCA is a cohort-oriented postgraduate course that results in a group exhibition of work. This year twelve students from the UK, Northern Ireland, Cyprus, Sweden, Austria, Italy and the USA all showed their work at The Civic in Barnsley under the title ‘Duodecimal’.
