My background is as the organiser of exhibitions at five contemporary art galleries. I now work as a consultant and fundraiser for arts organisations, take groups on visits to galleries and give art history talks to students in continuing education. In the last three years I have given talks on 60 different topics ranging from Asian, African and Oceanic art to Western art from the Renaissance to the present day.

I have a particular interest in sculpture and enjoyed organising early career shows of work by artists such as Antony Gormley, Andy Goldsworthy, Tony Cragg, Susan Hiller, Bill Woodrow and Richard Deacon. I commissioned new work by Cornelia Parker, Mona Hatoum and Damien Hirst. I showed paintings by Victorian water colourists as well as by Stephen Farthing, Gillian Ayres and Jock McFadyen. I was the Co-ordinator of the Arts Council’s Year of Photography and of Look 07, a year-long photographic project in Manchester. I am currently preparing a weekend trip looking at the development of the English ceramic industry. I am also interested in the wider aspects of visual culture and have organised exhibitions about film, architecture, furniture, comic books and design.

In the last year I have accompanied OCA students on a number of study days in Leeds, Liverpool and to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. The thing that I have enjoyed most has been the enthusiasm of the students and the opportunity to interact with people of different ages and with different experiences and aspirations. I am looking forward to organising more study days and hope to help to develop the work of the OCA both as a tutor and on-line.
