Cheryl Huntbach

My background is across Fine Art practice including painting, drawing and printmaking. I studied B.A (Hons) Fine Art as a mature student (whilst also raising a small child). Followed by postgraduate studies in Barcelona, Spain. Currently my research interests stem from an expanded notion of drawing; incorporating analogue & digital techniques and processes.  This practice refers to notions of repetition, pattern, laborious means of production and temporary site-responsive drawings.

One approach to drawing involves laboured pricking, drilling and puncturing of paper. Often using intricate applications to decorative surfaces. In such processes I embrace the perverse irony of a pain-staking application upon cheap, mass-produced matter such as wood-chip wallpaper.

I’m especially interested in exploring collaborative and non-hierarchical means of disseminating practice and research within education. I’ve led curriculum development at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and acted as academic advisor and consultant at H.E.I’s across the U.K. More recent pedagogical research has explored the use of coaching strategies with students, alumni and staff at H.E.I’s. I also run an independent coaching and mentoring service for creative practitioners.
