I have a wide range of skills specialising in embroidered textiles and have now developed a fine art focus to my practice. My recent pieces include film, installation and time specific pieces.
My practice draws on aspects of everyday life for its focus. Day-today-existence is precious and I feel society ought to celebrate and value it. Memories and nostalgia form a kind of romanticism for place and space, which is integral to my work.
I am an artist based in Gloucestershire and always had a passion since childhood for textiles of any kind. I completed my education as a mature student, gaining a BAhons degree in Creative Arts at Bath Spa University and recently obtained a MFA in Art Practice from Goldsmiths College in London. In addition, I have a PGCE teaching qualification from the University of the West of England.
During the academic year 2011/12, I was artist in residence at Plymouth College of Art on the AA2A scheme. The focus for this was to develop pieces using their digital printing facilities.
I was exhibition coordinator for the Textile Forum South West (unfortunately now disbanded) for their final exhibition Mapping the Future: where are you now? This was held at The Brewhouse, Taunton in February 2012.
A piece of my recent work has been included in The Crocus Gallery Open in Nottingham, 17 Nov – 15 Dec 2012.
I have been working with distance learning students studying textiles at degree level for over ten years. I enjoy sharing the journey students take on this type of course and endeavour to stimulate and support them to enable them to achieve their goals.
