I am an experienced educator and creative practitioner with a BA in Graphic Arts and a masters in Sequential Design/Illustration. I am a qualified teacher in lifelong learning and have recently become a fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

I am the unit leader for the Graphics 1 unit at OCA and contribute to the writing of courses across the BA Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication courses. Previously I have been a lecturer at Leeds College of Art and I currently work on the BA Graphic Arts course at Leeds Beckett University (formerly Leeds Metropolitan) alongside my role at OCA.

My own creative practice spans a range of media and disciplines. Originally I was a graphic designer for a large agency before moving into illustration and education. As a designer/maker I am specifically interested in drawing, fabrication and exploring how we use objects to tell stories. I run a business as a silversmith selling ready to wear and commissioned narrative jewellery pieces as well as creating objects for exhibition. In my spare time I create comics and do this with a mind to understand and research the possibilities of sequential storytelling.

I have a personal interest in online distanced learning and how these resources can be used to make education more accessible to a wider audience. I believe that everyone (no matter their current skills or mindset) can benefit from creative education and development and look to individually support all my students on their own journey through this.
