Sue Lewis - The Open College of the Arts

Sue Lewis

I hold a BA in Spatial Design and an MA in Film and Television Theory from the University of Westminster, as well as a PGCE in Art and Design education. Alongside my teaching practice, I have consistently maintained an active engagement with grassroots creative and cultural organisations. In Brighton I co-founded and co-directed the Film Council–supported Ignition Network, an initiative established to address gaps in support for emerging filmmakers by providing access to resources, professional development, and exhibition platforms. During this period, I also developed my own creative practice encompassing film, photography, and installation, produced both independently and in collaboration with community partners.

Since moving to Cornwall, I have been a member of the Higher Education Film and Media teaching team at Truro College. My creative and scholarly activities continue to focus on multimedia production, including the creation of photographic essays for local zines and short-form film projects for regional organisations. In addition to my teaching, I work part-time with Cornwall Film Festival, where I deliver digital skills workshops and contribute to a range of media outputs, such as the New Wave Journal, mixed-media publications, and promotional short films.

My current practice is centred on place-based inquiry, with particular attention to deep mapping methodologies and the use of hypermedia tools to investigate the layered narratives of specific environments. I also contribute periodically to the Mass Observation Project, extending my interest in situated experience, everyday life, and participatory forms of documentation.
