Pippa Gatty

Since completing an MA in Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art in 2008 I have exhibited widely in the UK and abroad. Shows include ‘Made in Britain’ at the National Museum Gdansk (2019), ‘Contemporary Masters from Britain’, touring various museums in China. (2017-18) ‘Painting and history’ CAA Shanghai. (2017) L’Ora Blu,’ 3 person show at Yellow in Varese Italy, (2018). I have shown at Royal Academy summer Exhibition and Royal Scottish Academy, I show regularly with Arusha gallery in Edinburgh and London.

I have been included in various open competitions including Contemporary British Painting Prize and Jerwood Drawing Prize, Threadneedle prize and Discerning eye. From London originally, I now lives and works in the Inner Hebrides.

My work is rooted in the language and history of painting, thinking of time as another texture in the process and life of the works. Viewing the artist as ‘explorer’, I seek to uncover and reveal a space and dialogue between those works and my own worlds. My paintings are generally dark and small in scale and they document my experience of my environment; my sense of wonder and foreboding and grief, and reflect a nostalgia for a time of ecological innocence.
