Jonathan Briggs

Jonny is the MA Graphic Design Course Leader at the OCA and a Senior Lecturer at Leeds Beckett University, teaching on the Graphic Arts and Design undergraduate programme. He is also the Creative Director and Owner of Field Design.

Jonny has worked for over 20 years in the design industry, working for a broad range of studios, including being a director at dust c.2005. His commercial activities involve working for a number of high profile clients, including UEFA, The Royal Mail, the royal College of Art and The University of Sheffield. For the past ten years Jonny has been owner and Creative Director of Field, an experimental, Sheffield based design agency, that practices within education and the arts.

As a practitioner Jonny’s interested in design and creative methods that are inquiring and speculative, allowing for new pathways and methods of working that keep his practice active and evolutionary. He is not tied to any specific medium and believes that a creative practice should find its way into the medium that allows it to perform at its best.

Research Interests

Project Something is a collaboration between Benjamin Hall and Jonathan Briggs with the purpose of exploring chance and place in a digital landscape. Our methods include, mixing the physical with the digital, the people with the place and the found with the curated.

We embrace chance and encourage the unexpected. We are both currently active researchers, lecturers and practicing professionals within the creative industries. The research is an outlet for our nostalgic intrigue and a chance to continuously assess the changing digital landscape.
