About the course

This printmaking Open course develops your ability to observe in a selective way, develop your own visual ideas and means of expression. It enables you to gain experience and explore different printmaking techniques and media including monoprint, relief printing and collotype printmaking. The course introduces and builds awareness of the work of historic and contemporary printmakers and the history of printmaking.

Course Content

- Monoprinting, positive and negative masking, coloured masks, textured and combination monoprinting.
- Relief printing: linocuts, single colour, multi-block.
- Collatype collage prints.
- Combined processes, including chine colle and other experiments.

OCA allowed me to continue to work full time and study towards a degree from the other side of the world.  I don’t think there is another arts education institution that is so flexible and at the same time so professional.

Course Aims

The course aims to:
- A1 Develop your visual awareness and ways of expressing your visual ideas.
- A2 Explore the use of different printmaking techniques and media;
- A3 Develop awareness of the history of printmaking and the work of other printmakers.
- A4 Develop your reflective skills.

Course Outcomes

On successful completion of the course you will be able to:
- LO1 Use drawing for investigation, generating ideas, and recording and selecting visual information (A1).
- LO2 Use a range of printmaking techniques and media skilfully (A2).
- LO3 Demonstrate knowledge of some important artists and movements in the history of printmaking (A3).
- LO4 Reflect upon your own learning experience (A4).
